Golang Education Outreach – Staff Team-Building Weekend On the weekend of 27 -28 February, nineteen staff members set off to the Magalies Retreat Centre for two days of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual rejuvenation. On arrival, after a quick breakfast, we were immediately thrown into the deep-end of the obstacle course, which included the ‘Gladiators’ ring (from SABC fame). The staff excelled themselves by fully participating in all the activities as well as offering support to team members whose courage and tenacity waned in the face of frightening odds. Tons of laughter ensued with the team’s progress, as some of us got wedged on beams on the obstacle courses, dropped into muddy pools, toppled over trampolines, and flew face-down into safety nets! With the professional help of team-building facilitators, Marinda and Rosie, we got to know one another on a deeper level. On Saturday evening, the heart-rending hymns led by members of the team around the beautiful bonfire were particularly moving. We prayed, too, for our colleague, Bongi, who was too ill to attend. On Sunday morning we were once again uplifted spiritually by Pastor Simon, who gave a notable sermon on living ‘the new life’ in Christ. After a delicious lunch we returned home, revitalized and ready to face 2010
with renewed energy and enthusiasm.
