High School Youth Program

The name of the High School Ministry is called: Impumelelo Phambili which is Zulu and means "Achieving Forward".

This ministry began February 2008 at the Emthonjeni Community Centre located in Zandspruit.

Currently we are running a Kids Club that caters for the needs of children ages 6-13 (Grades 1 - 7) living in Zandspruit informal settlement. Over the past several years, we have built into the lives of these children and then watched them graduate out of the ministry when they reached Grade 8. It has been our desire and burden to continue ministering to these students even as they continue on in Grades 8-12 (14 to 19 years of age). It is at this stage in life that it is critical to provide an environment where these high school students can continue to be nurtured spiritually, assisted in their school studies, motivated to make good life choices and decisions, and have a safe place to come and be themselves, as we discuss issues that pertain to their world.

We also believe that at this age it is a good opportunity to expose the students to serving opportunities within their own community and outside their community in order to teach them how to give back to society and not just be on the receiving end. We want to instill a sense of ownership, responsibility, and hope in these up-and-coming young adults who are growing up in disadvantaged circumstances.

Date and Time

Our ministry meets every Saturday from 9:30 - 12:00pm except during the school holidays.

What we do

Our Saturday morning program has a focus on spiritual discipleship. A typical Saturday morning begins with breakfast together, followed by worship, teaching from God’s Word, and small group discussion around the teaching topic that day. Within the calendar year, there will be outreach events, opportunities to serve the community, camp weekend, and special events.

Needs

  • Volunteers - especially male leaders who would be positive role models and help mentor and lead group discussion times.
  • People who might have a job skill or trade they could teach to the students.
  • People who could assist with tutoring and homework help.
  • Motivational Speakers who have risen out of their own circumstances.
  • Someone to sponsor the cost of the food.
  • Adopt a student program. Need a sponsor for each high school student to cover school fees, uniforms, and transportation cost to school.
  • Golang bus or taxi to help in transporting the students for the outreach events.
  • Funds for a mission trip or camp weekend.
