Pre-school Project Background Over the years we have realized that the greatest impact into a child’s life happens when the child is still a toddler and that if we want to holistically nurture and develop children into the best person God intended them to be, we have to start working at a very young age. This is how the need for a top quality pre-school, within walking distance, was identified. Our Pre-School Programme has been running for three years now and this means that 35 children have graduated to Grade 1 after receiving a sound pre-primary background. This opportunity, which has been provided for the children, is really a great privilege as we have seen the parents, grandparents and guardians taking responsibility for the education of their dependants. Participation is of prime importance in the lives of these young people both while they are at school and in their homes. We have been partnering with Kingsway Christian Primary School and are proud to have had 9 Grade 1 pupils attend during 2010. They have all benefited greatly by being able to attend a highly principled and holistic school. In 2011, we are sending another 3 Grade 1 pupils to Kingsway. It is our prayer that by the end of 2011, all of our Grade 0 children will be able to graduate to this school. We welcomed Miss Simphiwe
Khumalo as our new Grade 0 teacher in the final term of 2010 – she has passed
the PWAP course with high recommendation and, as she has has experience with the
Golang Programme for 8 years, we feel we have a high calibre member of staff in
her. To have a top quality pre school within walking distance for the residents of
the Zandspruit informal settlement and to guide these children into the best
primary, secondary and tertiary educational opportunities we can find. The pre-school can accommodate 60 children and 3 teachers and is in
a container format. The school syllabus is run by the "Play-with-a-Purpose"
franchise, which is an accredited pre-school stimulation program with many
successful pre-schools which form part of their program. We are currently busy
with Phase 2 of the school, which is 40 children and two teachers. The school
only runs half-day but there are pre-school aftercare facilities available. Contact person With any questions regarding the Pre-school Project, please contact Marietjie Steyn at 082 337 6242 or marietjie@golangoutreach.co.za Photo album |
